Sign Manufacture
The sign manufacturing industry use vast amounts of structural adhesives within their manufacturing process. One of the main applications is bonding aluminium to aluminium when fabricating the letters and sign boxes. The strengths achieved with these substrates in most cases are stronger than the materials themselves.
In many cases to aid installation of the sign, or allow the necessary access to the signs internals (lighting units), bonded fasteners are another application involving methacrylates. The fasteners are simply bonded to the surface of the substrate, which can also be done on vertical areas due to the non‑slump technology.
In addition, with the introduction of newer, more lightweight materials, such as Alucobond, and foamex, methacrylates allow the fabrication of dissimilar materials with ease. This ease of application and freedom of design provided by methacrylates has aided the development of this industry, and is set to be the foundation for the sign industry of the future.
